Industry Skills Pack
example work of my skills
examples on what my skills want to be
I hope for the future that my skill set never stops improving, as I will always want to better myself, learn from my mistakes and make myself proud of the work I complete. With these goals in mind I don’t think there will ever be a set out time line, as I aim to always practise my skills, but also ask from advice from people who are in the same line of work and have more experience than me. With this I mind I hope that I will either be working at a well-renowned animation company that specialises in stop-motion or have opened my own studio with like-minded, talented people. While I will open my options to studios that also focus on 2d, my love for stop-motion animation is never ending and is such a precise craft that brings many skills and knowledge to one craft.
Personal Professional Presentation Pack
With the help of the online industry skill talks by Nicky Francis and the DPS sessions i have attended. I have learnt how to create successful portfolio, showreels and cvs, but also have created linkin account an have updated my instagram art account.
For these social media accounts I have linked my, my portfolio and uploaded my showreel. While Instagram and LinkedIn are very different to set up, I just followed what they suggested. I will use LinkedIn to connect to animation companies, but also message people in the industry for advice but also to research internships.
For my Instagram, it will only be used to gather followers, and to record but also show my progression of my skills, whether it be with painting, animation or digital art.

Portfolio
Portfolio – amygallehawk.wixsite.com/amy-gallehawk
I created my portfolio and showreel with the help of my Dps leader Rosa Beiroa. As I mainly want to work with the stop-motion portion of animation, I was advised to mainly to include my stop-motion films. And to avoid including projects, I won’t be interested in on working on in a professional environment. With this in mind, I gathered material that I was proud of and showed my best work. I created the showreel on iMovie and found royalty free music to add over the top. The music I chose fits the theme and tempo of my works.
I really like my showreel as it shows the best work I have completed to this day, while I will have to keep updating it. I will keep certain clips, like the parts of ‘Beatrix and Bonk’. One thing I would change about my showreel is the subtitles describing my roles within the clips, within iMovie it’s very hard to move the position of the sub-titles, so I am looking for a new free video editor.
I created my portfolio with wix; I started creating my portfolio on Squarespace, but realised to publish the website you had to pay. As I don’t have the budget for this and wix allows you to publish your website without paying, this was the best option. While it was harder to use and a bit more complicated, I soon got used to the mechanics. Before I started I created a colour pallet, with this I chose what suited me. With these colours in mind, I created my website.
On the first page I inserted a bio about me but also my showreel I then dedicated pages to experimental/playground and projects I have worked on, with these pages I inserted pre-production images and the final pieces then gave a brief explanation on what the project was for. As I haven’t created many big projects, there are only currently two, but in the future I plan to add more pages on the projects I complete, whether it be on my own or within a team.
Cover letter + cv
with the help of my dps grou[p leader i have created a cover letter that can be editted depending on what company i applie to but also created a version that i can send on linkind to message serpaerat people for advice but also to ask about inyerns at the company they work at

I created one cover letter, that I can easily change depending on which company I am applying to and what role I am applying to. With this template, I have been applying to multiple companies that I am interested in.
I also created another cover letter which will be used to send messages on LinkedIn. I applied the same logic as my other cover in which I created a template which I will change according to who i message. I will use this to ask for advice and enquire about whether the company is interested in internships..
Project Work
For my project work i decided to choose ‘ Les Nuits de Bassins – Projection mapping festival project proposal’ After researching all the other choices, i thought that this project was the most interesting, as while i was learning a new skills (projection mapping and proposal writing), there was a chance that our proposal would be chosen to be showed at the festival in france. If this happed we could expand our idea from a proposal into a real life exhibit, we would also be able to travel to france to see the festival with our own eyes. Not only would this be an amazing experience, having our work seen by many people at the festival would be really rewarding
I worked in a group with Avi, Freya and Yang, this year for the festivals theme it was ‘Fire and Water. At the beginning we had many ideas, all either focusing on fire or water but separately. After none of the ideas stuck, we decided to merge both of the themes and think of ideas that way.
While thinking of our ideas, we also thought of the mechanics and placement of our display, as this would affect how people see and think of the show.
After talking about what fire and water have in common, we thought of fireflies, as they most commonly populate swamps, lakes and rivers. With this in mind, we researched about fireflies and how light pollution, pollution and agriculture is destroying their habitats. After finding this out, we wanted to focus on the dying population of bugs, focusing on light pollution, and we came up with a few ideas.
First was to have a 2D animated display where the audience would stand in front of the boards and have fireflies fly around them. After talking with the group leader, he thought it would take away from the experience as the audience wouldn’t be able to see all the display at once.
So after reviewing our ideas, we came up with our second idea, it would be an interactive loop, where the audience will affect how brightly the fireflies are glowing. We researched how we could create this and asked our group leader to help us. He recommended getting noise sensors and, depending on the pitch or volume of sound the audience creates, we could program the fireflies to change their brightness. We all really liked this idea as the audience can interact with the display, and really feel a part of the festival.
Our next task was created proof of concept, for this Avi created fireflies and backgrounds within Blender. Our next step was thinking how and where this would be displayed, we decided on a group of boards at in a semi-circle gave best effect.
After we had created our proposal and placed it within a PowerPoint, we presented it in front of the class and in front of the person who was organising the event. After we had finished presenting, Luc Brevart gave us some feedback, which we took on board and updated our proposal.
I believe this project went really well, as a group, we worked really well together and had great communication. At the end, we are really proud of our project and Luc Brevart also really liked our idea. We now have to wait to see who’s groups he and his team have chosen, if we are choses we will travel to France for 3 days in September.
One thing that went wrong with the presentation on my behalf was that my Wi-Fi stopped working halfway though me talking, but this was something couldn’t have stopped. Early during the day, I had noticed my Wi-Fi wasn’t working properly. I had warned my team beforehand, for any eventualities. During the presentation when my Wi-Fi stopped I texted my team informing on what happened and they covered for me. I’m very lucky to have such a kind team and this luckily didn’t affect how Luc Brevart saw our idea.
